BSOD when HP Anyware is installed on Windows 10 64-bit Professional and Enterprise version 1809

Problem

  • Microsoft Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) is not compatible with HP Anyware 
    • Windows will get BSOD when PCoIP Standard Agent is installed and running on Windows 10 with October 2018 Update version1809.
    • For PCoIP Graphics Agent for Windows, the NVidia GRID driver will disappear when the Windows 10 1809 update is installed.
  • As of October 6th, 2018, Microsoft "paused" the rollout of version 1809 for ALL Microsoft customers. See here for Microsoft announcement. As of October 10th, 2018, Microsoft has "re-enabled" the 1809 update (in the fast channel).

 

Recommended Release

  • HP Anyware recommends using Microsoft Windows 10 version 1803 which is compatible with HP Anyware. 

 

Recommended Recovery Steps

To recover after installing/upgrading to Windows 10 1809 and experiencing the issue:

  1. Boot machine in safe mode.
  2. Uninstall PCoIP Standard Agent.
  3. Restart machine.
  4. Restore to previous windows 10 following the Microsoft KB-12415:
    • Go back to your previous version of Windows: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options
  5. After machine is up again, run winver command to make sure windows has been reverted to previous version.
  6. Check Control Panel and make sure PCoIP Standard Agent is no longer listed in Programs and Features.
  7. Open Task Scheduler and delete TeraCleanupLogs task and TeraRestoreWDDMDriver task.
  8. Install PCoIP agent. 

 

How can I disable Automatic Updates on Windows 10?

To avoid the system automatically upgrading to Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809), follow these steps:

  1. Use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command.
  2. Type gpedit.msc and click OK to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
  3. Browse the following path: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update
  4. On the right side, double-click the Configure Automatic Updates policy.
  5. Check the Disabled option to turn off the policy. Or under the "Options" section, choose "Auto download and notify for install" or "Allow local admin to choose setting".
  6. Click the Apply button.
  7. Click the OK button.

 

When will HP Anyware be compatible with version 1809?

  • HP Anyware does have a non-signed driver that has been tested with version 1809. 
  • If you would like a technical preview version of this driver, please request this load by submitting a case to HP Anyware.  The driver will allow HP Anyware to operate on Windows 10 version 1809 as long as you enable Test Mode in Windows.  Details are here on how to enable Test Mode.
