Configuring DaVinci Resolve Remote Panels for use with HP Anyware
Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve is a professional grade video editing program that contains a Remote Panel workflow designed to allow users to use USB panels connected to their system to control a remote DaVinci Resolve system via a network interface using HP Anyware.
There are 2 systems involved when using DaVinci Resolve with HP Anyware.
User System: Consists of a computing device with a HP Anyware software client installed and an attached USB panels located at the same site as the user.
Grading System: Consists of a computing device on which Resolve is running and having HP Anyware Graphics Agent installed, licensed and controlled by the editor using the User system.
Requirements:
- HP Anyware components.
- User system and Grading system should able to communicate with each other via the network.
- Network devices and User system must allow an incoming connection from the Grading system that includes port 20323.
- Both systems running the same version of Resolve.
- Knowledge of the different platform locations of the DaVinci Remote Panel script/app.
- Linux:
For DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panel - /opt/resolve/bin/DaVinciRemoteAdvPanel.sh
For DaVinci Resolve Micro/Mini Panel - /opt/resolve/bin/DaVinciRemotePanel.sh - Mac:
For any DaVinci Resolve Panel - /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/DaVinciRemotePanel.app - Windows:
For DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panel - %ProgramFiles%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\DaVinciRemoteAdvPanel.bat
For DaVinci Resolve Micro/Mini Panel - %ProgramFiles%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\DaVinciRemotePanel.bat
User System Setup
- Install a HP Anyware software client for your platform.
- Install Resolve.
- Connect the USB panels to the User system.
- Open Davinci Control Panels Setup and make sure that the system sees the panel and that the firmware is latest greatest.
- Test that the User system is configured and working with Resolve running locally on that machine.
- Exit the Resolve application on the User system.
- Ensure any local software firewalls allow a connection to the Grading system on port 20323.
Grading System Setup
- Install the HP Anyware Graphics Agent for your platform. (See Windows or Linux. Requires a license)
- Enable PCoIP Ultra. (See Windows or Linux for further information)
- Install Resolve.
- Configure the panel preferences to match the panels being used in this setup.
- Add the following line in advanced preferences (where IP corresponds to the IP of the User system that can be accessed from the Grading system). The port used for communication is 20323.
- Local.Panel.Remote.Address = <accessable_user_system_IP>:20323
- Exit the Resolve application after making and saving the changes to preferences.
- Ensure any local software firewalls allow a connection from the User system to port 20323 on the Grading system.
Launching the DaVinci Remote Panel Setup
- Ensure network devices, the User and Grading systems configurations are completed.
- From the User system, run the DaVinci Remote Panel script/app for your platform. The panels are now ready to communicate with the Grading system. Restarting the Resolve app on the grading system does not require the panel script/app to be restarted. NOTE: The panel script/app should be up and running before Resolve is launched on the grading system.
- Open the HP Anyware software client and connect to the HP Anyware Graphics Agent installed on the Grading system.
- From the Grading system start Resolve. Now, the panels should be able to control Resolve.
NOTES:
- Restarting the Resolve app on the Grading system does not require the panel script/app to be restarted.
- The panel script/app should be up and running before Resolve is launched on the Grading system.
- On Linux and Windows User systems, if the panel being used is the DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panel, ensure you use the DaVinciRemoteAdvPanel script instead of the DaVinciRemotePanel script.
