This article provides a brief list of troubleshooting steps for common issues with 802.1x authentication. It is not intended to be a comprehensive troubleshooting guide. These include scenarios for:

  • Problems uploading IEEE 802.1x certificates to PCoIP zero clients or PCoIP host cards
  • Problems authenticating a PCoIP zero client or PCoIP host card

Scenario 1:

Problems uploading IEEE 802.1x certificates to PCoIP zero clients or PCoIP host cards.

  • Is the certificate a .PEM certificate?
  • Does the PEM certificate have a Private Key in RSA format?

Scenario 2:

Problems authenticating a PCoIP zero client or PCoIP host card on an IEEE 802.1x network

  • Is the IEEE 802.1x environment set up to support EAP-TLS?
  • Does the client have the appropriate server certificates uploaded? An 801.2x client certificate (must include the private key) and 802.1x server CA root certificate.
  • Browse the AWI (Upload > Certificate) and ensure the correct certificates are uploaded and applied.
  • Does the client certificate uploaded contain the private key using RSA encryption?
  • Does the client have 802.1x Security enabled?
  • Is the client certificate applied under Network settings?
  • Ensure the "Identity" string is set in the AWI (Configuration > Network).
  • Only one client certificate can be used at a time for the PCoIP zero client or PCoIP host card.
  • You can upload up to 16 certificates.
  • If you are still unable to resolve your 802.1x authentication issue after investigating the above, a network capture file (e.g. wireshark) taken during authentication process may be required.
