Scenario

User notices poor audio quality when connected to a PCoIP Remote Workstation Card (host card), and the following entries are in the PCoIP Remote Workstation Card's logs:

12/04/2013, 00:01:41> LVL:3 RC: 0 AUDIO_CMPRS :Skipped compressing pkt due to PCM bit length. (frame=0 num_bits=80)
12/04/2013, 00:01:47> LVL:3 RC: 0 AUDIO_CMPRS :Skipped compressing pkt due to PCM bit length. (frame=0 num_bits=80)
12/04/2013, 00:01:54> LVL:3 RC: 0 AUDIO_CMPRS :Skipped compressing pkt due to PCM bit length. (frame=0 num_bits=80)

This problem can occur when connected from a PCoIP Zero Client or a local client computer running the HP Anyware PCoIP Software Client.

Cause

These entries indicate that the packets being generated don't have 2 channel 16 or 24 bit data. They are therefore not compressed. The PCoIP protocol will only compress packets that contain 2 channel 16 or 24 bit data streams.

Resolution

From the physical machine where the PCoIP Remote Workstation Card is installed, open the Microphone Properties > Advanced tab and change the Default Format to 48KHz 2 channel 16 bit or 24 bit.
