Using HP Anyware PCoIP Zero Clients and Remote Workstation Cards on a direct-connect (no IP) network
Direct-connect (no IP network) configurations, sometimes incorrectly referred to as "home-run networks", refer to a direct connection between 2 devices without network switches/hubs installed using straight through cables via patch-panels. Although zero clients and remote workstation cards can be configured this way with some success, it may not work in all scenarios and is not a supported configuration unless the following condition is met:
- The user needs to modify the Ethernet card settings to eliminate link speed auto negotiation between the HP Anyware Remote Workstation card and the Zero Client.
However, wherever possible, a switch or router is recommended as it facilitates troubleshooting and flexibility in your deployment.
If using your zero client and remote workstation card in a direct-connect configuration the following information may assist and achieving a successful deployment:
- In general, HP Anyware only supports direct-connect (no IP) configurations that include a switch.
- Set network interface as the clock master on the Remote Workstation Card
- Select the check box for Prefer Master for Auto-Negotiation on the PCoIP Remote Workstation Card. For more details see the PCoIP Remote Workstation Card Administrative Guide.
- Ensure a sound network that considers
- Cable quality
- Cable termination quality (especially when using Cat-6 cabling)
- Connectors and patch panels. Minimizing cable terminations where possible
- Total cable distance
- Avoiding cable placement near electrical noise sources
- If considering a system for use in a heavy industrial environment, consider the PCoIP Zero Client and Remote Workstation Card fibre models that have SFP connectors. Fibre Optic cable is not susceptible to the same interference that affect copper cables.
