Overview

A tenant is a logical entity that refers to a dedicated instance of resources and data stored in a specific region, such as North America. It is created within an organization, and a single organization can have multiple tenants, such that each tenant is a unique and distinct entity.

Multiple users are typically associated with a tenant, and all the resources associated with that tenant are available to the associated users.

However, the actual user and resource management within a tenant is controlled using the following:

  • Sites, which represent the geographical region as well as the "type" of compute resources. Sites therefore, determine the type of machines to be provisioned and deployed.

  • Pools, which control the compute resources, user groups, and user—machine assignment rules. VM creation and user assignment occur after a pool is established.

Once sites and pools are set up, users belonging to a tenant can start using the compute resources.

At present, the following tenants are supported:

  • Windows 365
  • VMware vSphere
  • Registered devices (Physical workstations and unmanaged virtual machines)

At the time of creating a tenant, you can specify its region, provisioning policy, and identification details. Detailed instructions on adding and deleting tenants are available in the following sections.

Info

When you create a new tenant, you can select the type of site you'd like to create as a part of the onboarding process. You can create any other type of site within this tenant later, regardless of the site type you chose during the initial onboarding. Similarly, you can select any type of pool within, regardless of the type of tenant.

Info

At present, only 15 tenants are permitted per organization. If you require more tenants, get in touch with HP Anyware Support.

User Assignment in Tenants

The number of users that can access tenant resources is determined by the following:

  • In Windows 365 deployments, the Entra ID licenses
  • In VMware deployments, the vSphere licenses
  • For registered devices, the Entra ID licenses

User—machine assignment is handled differently on Windows 365, VMware vSphere, and registered devices.

  • In Microsoft Windows 365 deployments, User—machine assignment is handled by Windows 365. For example, consider a tenant "ACME" that has a group called “Engineering” with 5 users, and a pool containing 10 VMs. At the time of assignment, machines will be persistently assigned to users, which means that only 5 VMs will be used from the pool.

  • In VMware deployments, pools are assigned at the time of creating a tenant. Once this is done, user assignment is handled by VMware. For example, if a pool containing 10 machines is assigned to a VMware tenant, the machines are shared by user groups defined on VMware deployments.

  • For registered devices, pools are assigned at the time of creating the tenant. Once this is done, user assignment is handled by Anyware Manager Enterprise. For example, in a pool of 10 registered devices, users can either connect to a device automatically or choose a specific device assigned to them by an administrator. Users will have a 1-on-1 assignment with their machines.

Tenant Setup Workflow

This table chronologically lists the high-level steps that need to be performed to set up a tenant.

Step Description Topic
1 Add a tenant to your Anyware Manager Enterprise instance. A tenant does not actually provision or deploy Windows 365 machines, but creates a logical entity that will reference a specific type of compute resources.
2 Add a site to your tenant. Sites represent the "type" of compute resources, and therefore, define the type of resources that will be associated to this tenant.
3 Associate a pool with your tenant. Pools control the compute resources, user groups, and user—machine assignment rules. VM deployment and user assignment occurs after a pool is set up.
4 Manage tenants as needed. You can edit tenant details, site details, as well as pool details.

Info

Anyware Manager Enterprise is integrated with HP Workforce Experience, a comprehensive platform that provides centralized access to manage and monitor every PC, Mac, printer, collaboration tool, and accessory in the HP ecosystem. Integration with HP Workforce Experience requires a company PIN, which is available under Preferences in the Settings menu of the HP Workforce Experience platform. You must associate this PIN with your tenants either at the time of adding them or editing them. Once associated, telemetry data for your HP Anyware deployment can be accessed from the HP Workforce Experience dashboard.
