Previous release information:

Smart Cards Authentication for Enhanced Security

Version 24.03 of the Linux Client SDK introduces support for two-factor authentication using smart cards. The Linux SDK can now use smart cards for pre-session authentication while launching the Linux client to connect to a Windows agent. Once launched, Linux clients can read and process smart card information and allow SSO (single sign-on) authentication of the user prior to session establishment.

To enable smart card authentication, new parameters have been provided in the login_info.txt file of the Broker API and the Core API, using which values such as certificate index, reader name, and pin can be passed while launching the client.

Smart card authentication not only adds a layer of security, but also ensures simplified identity management while accessing PCoIP deployments. For information on supported smart cards and readers, see- the topic "Supported Smart Cards & Readers" in the Linux Client Guide. To know how to connect to Windows agents using smart card authentication, see "Using a Smart Card to Authenticate a Connection" in the topic "Connecting to Remote Desktops" of the Linux client guide.

Note: SDK support for smart card authentication is available as TECHNOLOGY PREVIEW in version 24.03.

Release Overview

The PCoIP Client Software Development Kit (SDK) is a set of libraries and binaries provided to Teradici Cloud Access Software customers who require the ability to customize and build a PCoIP client.

With control over how the PCoIP client is built, you can:

  • Build clients that conform to your company style and branding guidelines.
  • Build clients that adapt to customized workflows (for example, embed a PCoIP session into a software solution).

PCoIP Client SDK 20.01 introduces new fixes and updates to the previous release. This article provides a summary of key additions, compatibility notes, resolved issues, and known issues for this release.

To build additional functionality, such as extended peripheral support, you can utilize the Teradici PCoIP Virtual Channel SDK.

What's New in This Release

This release introduces the following features and enhancements to the PCoIP Client Software SDK 20.01 for Linux:

Support for Locally Terminated Wacom Tablets

In this release the following Wacom Tablets are supported through local termination on the PCoIP Software Client SDK for Linux:

- Wacom Intuos Pro Medium

- Wacom Intuos Pro Large

- Wacom Cintiq Pro 24 - Pen only

Detect Monitors Feature

Detect Monitors is a new menu item that enables users to trigger the client to recognize if there has been a change in the displays connected to the Client. For example, if you are plugging a projector into a laptop. This feature extends the remote workstation to include the projector without having to disconnect or reconnect to the session.

Important Notes and Requirements

  • The SDK is intended for Cloud Access Software who require some client customizations when PCoIP Software Client for Windows and Mac, PCoIP Zero Clients, and PCoIP Mobile Clients do not meet their needs.

  • The SDK is intended for customers with software development skills and knowledge, as well as a sound understanding of virtualization systems.

What's New in This Release

This release introduces the following features and enhancements to the PCoIP Client Software SDK 19.11 for Linux:

Connecting USB flash devices to a remote host

You can now connect USB flash devices to a remote host. Only flash drives can be connected. Only the USB 2.0 protocol is currently supported.

  • USB 3.0 flash drives will not work when plugged into a USB 3.0 port, but will work when plugged into a USB 2.0 port.
  • USB 2.0 flash drives will work when connected to a USB 3.0 port.

Improved Audio Input Bandwidth

PCoIP monitors the bandwidth available for audio and selects the audio compression algorithm that provides the best quality possible for the available bandwidth. Previously PCoIP endpoints use the Opus audio codec for audio output only, now this codec is available for audio input. By using the OPUS codec for audio input, high quality audio recording is possible even when bandwidth is limited.

Enhanced Security and Stability

This release contains improvements and enhancements around the security and stability of the PCoIP Client Software SDK for Linux.

PCoIP Ultra

This release contains improved support for PCoIP Ultra, our latest PCoIP protocol enhancements. This is an evolving feature that will continually improve with each release. For more information see the PCoIP Agent documentation.

Auto-Forward USB Devices

This release enables USB devices to be automatically redirected to the remote desktop on connection. Either all devices can be forwarded or a set of devices specified by VID/PID.

Example Application

This release includes an example application (broker_client_example) to showcase connecting to a third-party broker and launches the session client (client_session) along with it's source code.

Pre-built client_session

This release includes a pre-built client_session file which can be used for launching the in-session. This can be used for building a custom client that just requires customization around brokering.

CMake Modules

This release includes CMake modules for importing and linking the supporting libraries in order to streamline the build process.
